Oklahoma death row inmate Tremane Wood was hospitalized after being found unresponsive in his cell, just hours after being granted clemency on the day of his scheduled execution. Wood, who had been sentenced to death for the 2001 murder of Ronnie Wipf, was found in a critical state by a correctional officer, with injuries resulting from a medical event. The incident occurred after Wood met with his attorneys and was moved to a new cell. He later revealed that he had not eaten or drunk anything since the previous evening and attributed his condition to dehydration and stress. Wood's brother, Zjaiton Wood, who was also involved in the crime, received a life sentence without parole and died in 2019. Tremane Wood's attorneys had consistently argued that he was not the one who carried out the murder. The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board recommended clemency, and Governor Kevin Stitt accepted the recommendation, commuting Tremane Wood's sentence to life without parole. This marked Stitt's second clemency decision and the sixth such case in Oklahoma's modern history of capital punishment.
