General Practice and Game InfoPractice/games on Sunday afternoons at Chestnut Hill Middle School Gym. We will have an occasional Saturday game or practice. Baskets are set at 8.5’ and we use a smaller sized, youth basketball
Team Selection: After coaching groups are formed, players are mostly assigned to a team with other players from their school or neighborhood. We do try to honor special requests. Siblings are automatically assigned to the same team.
Instructional Level
The Focus of our Instructional Levels is on basic fundamental basketball skills, basic understanding of rules, and concepts of teamwork and sportsmanship. We begin by concentrating on skill development and instruct players in a “clinic style format.” Once teams are formed, individual teams will primarily practice alone. At the conclusion of the initial instruction period, each week will have a brief practice time and “controlled” games with other teams.
Note to parents:
Most kids wear gym shorts and a t-shirt. The registration fee includes an Optimist team shirt.
If wet (e.g. snowing), please carry sneakers in.
It's a good idea to bring a water bottle.
Basketball baskets remain at 10 feet, but use a smaller 25" ball (souvenir size). The league will provide balls for team use.
We do not keep score!
6 minute periods, we try to play 8.
Different 5 players each period, so all kids play at least 3 periods, some play 4.
